Baby boy with a birth weight of 5.5 kg born at Bhadrachalam.
A woman gave birth to a baby boy with a record weight of 5.5 kgs at a private hospital at Bhadrachalam in the district on Thursday.
The new born boy is the second son of a couple, Batti Ramesh and Sandhya of Venkatapuram. The delivery took place at Jeevan Hospital at Bank Street in Bhadrachalam through caesarean section. Both mother and child are in good health, the hospital authorities said.
A gynaecologist at the hospital Dr. Challagulla Spandana told mediapersons that a new born baby having a weight of 5.5 kgs was a rare occurrence. In Telangana, the record is that of a baby weighing six kgs at birth at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad sometime back.
The baby boy born at Bhadrachalam is the second one in the State in terms of birth weight. The average birth weight for babies is around 3.5 kg, though 2.5 kg to 4.5 kg is also considered normal birth weight, the doctor explained.
There are records of babies with birth weight ranging from 7.2 to 8.6 kg in different nations of the world. The heaviest baby born so far in the world had a birth weight of 9.97 kg in 1879 in Canada.
