Unlock 2.0: As the first phase of Unlock nears an end, here’s what to expect from July 1

NEW DELHI: The fifth phase of nationwide lockdown, along with the first stage of the three-phased lockdown exit strategy, will come to an end on June 30. The second phase of lifting of the lockdown or Unlock 2.0 includes reopening of schools, colleges and other educational institutions following consultations with the states and UTs.

Now, amid the continuous rise in COVID-19 cases when the daily infections are making new records every day, the Centre along with state governments are in dilemma to whether allow the activities to open further with the new phase of Unlock starting from July 1 or to continue with the restrictions to stop the rising trend.

Meanwhile, looking at PM Modi’s advice to the Chief Ministers of state, it is expected that no further lockdown will be imposed in the country, however, it is likely that selective restrictions will continue in worst-hit parts of the states to curb the further spread of the deadly pathogen.

Here is what PM Modi said to the CMs during his virtual meet earlier this month:

– PM Modi said that there will not be any fresh lockdown anywhere in the country.

– He also told the CMs to give more momentum to economic activities that have already resumed.

– PM said that our focus should be on bringing investments, increasing of business and building employment opportunities.

– The fight against coronavirus should continue with the same zest.

– We should highlight more the recovered number of patients to get people out of stigma due to fear of getting infected.

– Trace, track and isolate — the three-pronged fight must become quicker.

– The helplines should be helpful, not helpless.

– In states where Aarogya Setu App has been downloaded more, there have been very positive results. We have to constantly try to increase the reach of the Aarogya Setu App and ensure more and more people download this app.

– We should form a team of senior doctors to guide patients via telemedicine and to provide them with the right information. Apart from this, we also have to raise an army of young volunteers who can run the helpline effectively for the public.

– The spread of Covid-19 is more in a few big states and cities.

The coronavirus pandemic has afflicted more than 5.28 lakh people across the country, while the death toll in the country crossed the 16,000-mark.
