State government was promoting energy efficiency in a mission mode with an objective to benefit every family in the State in the form of reducing electricity bills and other costs and promote industrial and economic development, said Minister for Energy Balineni Srinivasa Reddy .
The Minister has facilitated State Energy Conservation Awards to government and private organisations at a valedictory function of energy conservation week organized by AP State Energy Conservation Mission at Vijayawada on Friday.
Simhadri Super Thermal Power Station (NTPC Simhadri, Visakhapatnam), Tirupati Municipal Corporation andSree Jaya Jyothi Cements Pvt Ltd have won awards under gold category. Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation, Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station, Nellore and Dalmia Cements, Kadapa have been selected for awards under silver category. APEPDCL building in visakhapatnam has been nominated for certificate of the merit in Building sector.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister who has presented seca awards said that the government wants every home, industry and commercial establishment to become energy efficient which would improve efficient use of energy. Prevention of wastage of energy leads to lower energy bills and other energy related expenditure. He advised people to use energy efficient and star rated appliances to save energy and money as well.
Stating that the State government had aimed at achieving cost effective power, the Minister said that cost effective energy efficiency was the strong base for achieving cheap power and would boost economic activity and lead to increased employment. Energy efficiency was also the least-cost option to meet growing energy demand, strengthen power sector and also vital forsustainable development.
Expressing happiness over the industries and thermal power plants along with urban local bodies for being selected for energy conservation awards, the Minister said, “This is definitely a welcoming development. I appeal to industry sector to come forward voluntarily to work with government to enhance energy efficiency in industries. The energy efficiency will give not only economic benefits but also environmental protection,” he said.
The Minister has appreciated APSECM and energy department forintroducing awards first time in the State under energy efficiency category. “Recognising the endeavors of various organisations who are achieving energy efficiency isreally appreciable. This will inspire both public and private organisations and the number of participants will increase by next year,” he said.
Secretaryfor energy Srikant Nagulapalli said that Andhra Pradesh was one of the bestperformers in improving energy efficiency in industries under PAT compliance by saving2,386 MU of electricity that worth around Rs. More than 1600 crore.
As part of promoting cleaner technologies among differentMSME sectors in the state, an innovative low cost energy efficiency demonstration project through IoT technology is being implemented with the support of Bureau of Energy Efficiency. Energy efficiency activities are being implemented in various departments, including rural water supply (RWS), education, judiciary, panchayat raj, municipal administration, energy, agriculture and other departments.
The State has set target of achieving more than 15,000 MU of energy savings by implementing energy efficiency measures. “Setting up of energy conservations cells in all government departments is a milestone which shall be extended to even mandal level to penetrate energy efficiency to the gross route level,” he said.
APSECM officials explained that the National Productivity Council (NPC), autonomous organization under Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, conducted the evaluation process for selecting winners for State energy conservation awards under four categories- thermal power production, cement industry, building sector and urban local bodies.
The selection committee examined the achievements andcontribution of participants in the field of energy conservation and management and also considered other factors such as innovative techniques and technologies adopted and environment friendliness organizational set-up to promote energy conservation etc.
