AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy aiming at empower the state Economical, Agri sector, industries, through provide round-the- clock access to affordable and quality electricity to all sectors in the State for now and future generations as well, said Minister for Energy Balineni Srinivasa Reddy.

Addressing electricity department employees on the occasion of inaugurating New Year calendar and dairy of APTransco, APgenco, Discoms, APSECM, APSEEDCO and APNREDCAP organized by APCPDCL at Vidyut Soudha on Thursday, the Energy Minister said that the State government had laid special focus to create a healthy, efficient and consumer-centric power sector in the State. “The State will witness a rapid growth in various sectors, including industrial and agricultural which will drive electricity in manifold in future. In view of this, the government has strongly determined to strengthen power utilities to address the future challenges,” the Minister said.

Stating that providing round-the- clock access to affordable and quality electricity to all sectors was the prime objective of government, the Minister said the government was making all out efforts revive power utilities from the financial crisis.

As part of efforts to improve the finances of Discoms, the government released Rs 17, 904 crore in 2019-20 towards clearing subsidy arrears of Discoms. Out of subsidy arrears of Rs 13,391 crore pending as on March 31, 2019, the State government released Rs 8655 crore in 2019-20 andRs 9,249 crore towards subsidy announced in 2019-20 and other charges.

The State government also released Rs 20,384 crore to Discoms to clear the pending power generator bills which were in pending as on March 31, 2019. The total bills cleared by the Discoms were Rs 34,384 crore in 2019- 20.

As the government had more focus on cost effective power, the utilities successfully procured low cost power in open market. The government had strongly determined to make Andhra Pradesh as destination for cost effective power. This would benefit every consumer in the State and boost industrial and economic development, the Minister said.

The government was also high priority to agriculture sector and implementing 9- hours free power during day time to all 18.5 lakh agriculture services. The government also allocated Rs 8353.58 crore to free power scheme and released Rs 1700 crore to improve power supply infrastructure, including new substations and modernization of lines.

“Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy strongly believes that the effective implementation of free power scheme will improve living standards of farmers, agricultural productivity and give a boost to the rural economy,“Minister said.

He also said that tenders were invited for the 10000 MW solar projectwhich was specially planned to provide free power to agriculture sector for the next 30 years. The project may be ready in two years. This gigantic program would be a boon for farming community for getting day time assured and quality power supply.

He also said that for the first time, the government had agreed to pay Rs 1707.05 crore towards domestic subsidy.

The government also recruited 7523 energy assistants to strengthen the sector from village level and provide quality services to consumers at their doorsteps.

The Minster has asked employees to further develop consumer centric approach and said that the government never compromise on the welfare of consumers and employees.
