Make TTD best institution in energy efficiency great role in eco-friendly : Jawahar Reddy.

TTD has laid an ambitious plan to introduce ecofriendly energy efficiency measures to enhance efficiency in electricity usage that would give not only great energy savings but also significantly reduce electricity bills. world famous Tirumala temple is poised to save energy in a major way and significantly reduce electricity bills besides reducing carbon footprint.

Out of total energy consumption of 68 MU per annum in TTD, around 36% of the consumption is being met from solar and wind power generation. The remaining 64 per cent of electricity needs of 435 Lakh units for Tirupati, its surroundings and Tirumala Hills are being supplied by AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited(APSPDCL), Tirupati. “Energy audit and preparation of detailed project report by APSECM with recommendations of possible energy efficiency measures that can be implemented in TTD buildings, implementing all the best possible energy efficiency measures shall make TTD the best institution in the area of energy efficiency also which in turn TTD will play a great role in protecting the environment as well,” said Jawahar Reddy.

Similarly state temples could curb carbon free devotional Devine places Srisailam, Vijayawada, Srikalahasti, Kanipakam, Dwaraka Tirumala, Simhachalam and Annavaram with the support of endowments department.
In a preliminary energy audit conducted by Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission(APSECM), State Designated Agency of AP on the properties of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) it is observed that there is vast scope for saving of energy around 8.68 MU by replacing only the existing ceiling fans and air conditioners with the more efficient five star rating equipment other than other items such as Boilers, Drinking Water pumps, vehicles etc.. Besides, around 25 per cent of energy can be saved in water supply management, Hot water management and steam generation etc. The TTD is one of the biggest power consuming organization having a consumption of around 68 Million Units (MU) per annum. The energy consumption is high in big temples in general for various reasons, including lighting, cooking and other needs. Right now TTD is paying around Rs.40 crores towards Electricity charges as per applicable tariff as under :At 33Kv Voltage :Rs.5.06/ unit + Rs.475/KVA and at 11KV Voltage: Rs.7.65/unit + Rs.475/ KVA.
In view of this, the TTD is taking steps to introduce best energy efficiency measures in temples that can reduce energy consumption, energy costs and improve quality of lighting with less energy without compromising in comforts. The APSECM has recently conducted the walkthrough survey and the preliminary energy audit successfully and is preparing to conduct detailed audit soon consequently, convincing the pro active approach of TTD in energy efficiency/environment front.
The Union Ministry of Power led Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has agreed to provide financial support as grantin –aid to take up the energy audit in all the Premises of TTD both in Tirumala and Tirupati.

In its communication, the BEE has informed that APSECM may carry out Investment Grade Energy Audit(IGEA) under State Partnership for Energy Efficiency Demonstrations(SPEED) sub component of “providing financial assistance to the State Designated Agencies to coordinate, regulate and enforce efficient use of energy and its conservation at state level(SDA Strengthening scheme) and asked to submit Detailed Project Report(DPR) along with audit recommendations.
The State government wants the TTD to be the best in the area of energy efficiency which would allow the TTD to deliver more qualitative services to the crores of devotees world wide as well as its contribution towards nature by way of reduction in Green House Gases emissions.
“Opting for ecofriendly energy efficiency measures is opting for a sustainable tomorrow. Apart from energy and economic savings to the TTD, implementing energy efficiency will also give a feeling of being with nature. We hope that TTD’s initiative to embrace energy efficiency will encourage others to look at sustainable solutions that will help our society and nature as well. The TTD will become role model to others with regard to energy efficiency measures,” said executive officer of TTD K S Jawahar Reddy.
He also said that the implementation of energy efficiency measures in TTD is expected to improve quality of services to devotees. He also thanked Director General BEE, GoI, Sri. Abhay Bakre and Secretary Energy Sri.Srikant Nagulapalli who have shown keen interest
for initiating steps to implement energy efficiency in the TTD to showcase the same in the country in energy efficiency front.
