Andhra Pradesh would witness a rapid growth in industrial and agriculture sectors. In view of this, power utilities needs to address the future challenges for which the utilities should move deeper into consumer engagement for new business development.“The government wants to see fulfillment in the eyes of every farmers by ensuring that the free power scheme will be implemented more effectively. This will improve living standards of farmers, agricultural productivity and give a boost to the rural economy. The concrete steps taken by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy have brought real cheers to farming community in the State,”  all people of andha cheers said Minister for Energy Balineni Srinivasa Reddy.

Though we are very much satisfied about the qualitative 24X7 power supply, we must put all out concerted efforts to be the best State in the country in providing 24X7 by the next Ugadi festival (April-2022), said Minister.

“Providing the best quality services to consumers is the prime objective of government, The State government is giving more priority for consumer protection and social responsibility in power sector. It has reflected in the recent power tariffs released by APERC. The government wants to ensure that the expectations and needs of every consumer need to be acknowledged and addressed in a more effective way. This one of the success mantras for development and sustainability of power sector,” said a senior official of energy department.

The State government has asked power utilities to lay more focus on strengthening the safe, reliable and cheap electricity supply to consumers in future as well and becoming most consumer-centric utilities in the country.

According to officials, the State government told the power utilities that there was a significant change in consumer expectations who are expecting more cost-efficient, reliable and resilient services from power utilities as well as providing quality power supply. The government has already made lot of efforts on strengthening 24×7 power supply to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers and wants to transform the entire sector as per the aspiration of consumers to fulfill future needs.

As part of this, the government has laid focus on creating a healthy, efficient and consumer-centric power sector in the State. As a developing State, Andhra Pradesh would witness a rapid growth in industrial and agriculture sectors. In view of this, power utilities needs to address the future challenges for which the utilities should move deeper into consumer engagement for new business development.

“Providing the best quality services to consumers is the prime objective of government, The State government is giving more priority for consumer protection and social responsibility in power sector.  “Providing round-the- clock affordable and quality electricity to all sectors is one of the top priorities of government. This will create assurance among consumers, mainly in industrial consumers which boosts investments in the State,” the official said.

At the same time, the government has given high priority for strengthening YSR 9- hours free power supply to agriculture during day time under Navaratnalu to ensure that farmers shall get free power for the next 30 years. The government has also taken steps to make free power scheme as a role model to the entire country. 

The government has agreed to bear a burden of Rs 9091.36 crore for 2021-22 as subsidy for providing free power to agriculture consumers and some other weaker sections and subsidy for domestic consumers as well.

Secretary for energy Srikant Nagulapalli said that the power utilities was taking all necessary steps to supply uninterrupted power during summer as the demand for electricity is steadily increasing.

He said that the power utilities would be more cautious during the summer to avoid any inconvenience to the people due to any interruptions in power supply. “The power utilities have already taken up network improvement works to meet the consumer satisfaction by supplying quality power and utilities will also strive hard to reach expectation of State government,” the secretary said.

The Minister has appreciated sincere efforts of Joint Managing Directors/APTRANSCO, K Sreedhar Reddy and K Venkateswara rao and CMDs of DISCOMs, S NagaLakshmi, H Haranatha Rao and J Padma Janardhana Reddy and their team for meeting the power demand and providing quality power supply under the able-guidance of Secretary energy.
