The appreciation from the Union government on saving of Rs 1000 crore in power purchases in 2020 through cost effective measures , the State government is now fully focusing on strengthening the existing the 24×7 power supply and 9-hours free power supply to agriculture during day time and advised power utilities to take continuous feedback from consumers to deliver best services to the consumers.

The government has also appreciated power utilities for achieving significant reduction in power supply interruption during the last one year and asked to focus on improving power infrastructure.

As the electricity is the prime driver for State’s development which helps to improve the living standards of people, the State government has attached high priority for the uninterrupted and high quality power supply. The 24×7 power supply is being considered as one of the most important objectives of government policies for reviving economic growth on fast track in State.

In view of this, the government wants to take continuous feedback from common consumers to strengthen uninterrupted power supply ensuring high quality and affordability. “As a people’s government, we always give highest priority for public opinion. People’s voice is the precise measurement for the success of any pro public scheme being implemented in the State” top officer of the government said.

According to the reports, the number of interruptions in 24×7 power supply reduced by1.37 lakh in 2021. The interruptions in 2019-20 were around 3.91 lakh which decreased to 2.54 lakh in 2020-21 in the purview of APSPDCL, APCPDCL and APEPDCL.(Annexure enclosed in 3rd page). The continuous measures taken by power utilities as per directions of State government have helped to reduce interruptions significantly. “The objective of government is to supply high quality power without interruptions to every household in the State. Consumer satisfaction is the ultimate for the government,” a top official of APTransco said.

“We can observe a significant improvement in power supply and consumer’s satisfaction in the State. Despite the fact, the government wants to achieve 100 per cent excellence in uninterrupted power supply at international standards. The governmenthas strongly determined to make the AP power sector as the best pro-consumer sector in the country. The government is taking series of steps to make it as a people’s sector”said an APTransco official.

As part of this, the utilities have laid special focus on strengthening of power infrastructure to avoid interruptions in supply. Upgradation of electricity substations, strengthening of distribution networks, especially in rural areas and providing of additional infrastructure for agriculture supply during day time are some of the measures taken by the government to strengthen 24×7 power supply.

Similarly, the APTransco developed and deployed the countries first day-ahead Electricity Demand Forecasting model that would help to take the right decisions on electricity demand and will immensely help to provide 24×7 power supply.

Apart from this, the government is providing financial support to Discoms to strengthen them in public sector for the benefit of people in the State. The government have released huge amount of Rs 17, 904 crore in 2019-20 towards clearing subsidy arrears of Discoms. The government also released Rs 20,384 crore to Discoms to clear the pending power generator bills which were in pending as on March 31, 2019. The total bills cleared by the Discoms wereRs 34,384 crore in 2019- 20. The government has released Rs 7200 crore till December 2020.All these measures would help to improve the finances of Discoms and strengthen the utilities.

The government is also providing Rs 8353.58 crore for free power scheme in power sector for 2019-20.  The government, for the first time, has allocated Rs 1707.05 crore towards domestic subsidy.

State government has also recruited 7000 linemen and 172 assistant engineers in electricity department to ensure better services to the consumers. It would also help to strengthen the sector from the grassroots level.
