The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the consequential lockdown in the country has led to a virtual shutdown of the economy. However, banks are working during these times of crisis when almost the entire world is staying inside their homes.
In the month of May, the banks in several zones of the country will remain closed for up to 13 days. However, these non-working days will include two Saturday – one second and one fourth – and five Sundays. Buddh Purnima and Ramzan Eid are among the other holidays falling during the period.
Apart from the above, banks will also remain closed on May 1 on account of International Labour Day and Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti (on May 8). So, if you are looking to visit banks to get a new debit/credit card, or perform any other financial activity, then you must check the below list before leaving your home.
Here’s the zone-wise list of bank holidays in the month of May:
May 1: International Labour Day (Friday) — Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram
May 3: Sunday– All zones
May 7: Buddh Purnima (Thursday) — Agartala, Aizwal, Belapur, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla and Shillong.
May 8: Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti — Kolkata
May 9: Second Saturday — All zones
May 10: Sunday — All zones
May 17: Sunday — All zones
May 23: Fourth Saturday — All zones
May 24: Sunday — All zones
May 25: Eid-ul-Fitr (Saturday) — Almost all zones
May 31: Sunday — All zones
Apart from the above, Jammu and Kashmir will observe two more holidays on May 21 and 22 on the occasion of Shab-E-Qadr and Jamat-ul-Vida.
Note: Amid coronavirus lockdown, banks are currently being operated for only four hours between 10 am to 2 pm.
Besides banks, the stocks markets will remain closed on May 1 and May 25 on the occasion of Maharashtra Day and Eid respectively.
