Hyderabad: Two days ahead of the forecast, Hyderabad was greeted with spells of pre-monsoon showers that also brought down the day time mercury levels considerably on Wednesday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in its forecast has looked at onset of southwest monsoon in Telangana after June 12. On Tuesday night also, several parts of the city recorded rains that ranged between moderate to heavy. The average rainfall recorded was 14.5 mm.

Though Wednesday started with sunny weather conditions, by afternoon clouds gathered and the evening witnessed moderate rainfall in some parts and heavy rainfall in some places in the city. Till 6 pm, Abdullapurmet received highest rainfall at 65.3 mm, followed by Serilingampally (42.5 mm) and Pedda Amberpet (35.5), according to Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).

Apart from Greater Hyderabad region, districts such as Adilabad, Medak, Nizamabad, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Khammam, Kamareddy, Nirmal, Sangareddy and Jagtial too witnessed moderate rainfall on Wednesday.

The weather warning with RMC indicated heavy to very heavy rains likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana in the next three days. The Met department officials said monsoon has reached Rayalaseema region and it might take another two or three days to arrive in Telangana.

Hyderabad might not immediately receive rains once monsoon reach the State and would take some days to record showers, said a senior official.

“Southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some more parts of west central and north Bay of Bengal. Conditions are likely to become favourable subsequently for further advance of monsoon into parts of Telangana during subsequent 48 hours,” an official said.

Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner, DS Lokesh Kumar alerted monsoon teams to take up required steps in tackling complaints water logging on roads and colonies, tree falling, overflow of naalas and water stagnation points.
