The State Women Commission in co-ordination with IJM (International justice Mission) conducted a webinar on the problems faced by migrant worker women, amid the Covid-19 crisis such as illegal trafficking.
Smt. Vasireddy Padma, the Chairperson of Women Commission in her opening speech addressed the problems migrant worker women faced, illegal trafficking, sexual harassment and emphasized on the need to address these issues. She said women needed to be skill trained on local requirements in order to employ them.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. B.Udaya Lakshmi, Andhra Pradesh Labour and Skill Development Dept Principal Secretary, emphasized the sexual harassment faced especially by young working women. She reiterated that various departments are keeping a close watch and preventing anti-social elements from exploiting them out of their poverty.
Smt. R.Nuez in her welcome speech made known the various activities taken up by the department to help poor migrant women. Other experts present were G.V.Krishaniah, Principal Dist Judge, DR.Elena Saman, TRAI faculty member, Shri. V.V.Giri, Labour National Institute, New Delhi, Shri Raj Kumar, Advocate Madras Panel.
