Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao formally launched the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority’s (HMDA) clay Ganesh idols here on Friday.
Each idol is of eight inches in height. HMDA is distributing 50000 clay idols for free to residents at 32 centres across its limits.
HMDA has been distributing the clay idols since the last eight years as a means to promote ecofriendly celebrations and reduce pollution in the Hussain Sagar due to immersion of conventional Plaster of Paris idols.
The Minister handed over the first idol to Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
In view of the corona pandemic, the Minister appealed to the citizens to celebrate Ganesh festivities at their houses and help in containing the spread of the coronavirus.
