VIJAYAWADA: Two persons were killed in an explosion in an industrial estate at Surampalli, nearly 15 kilometres away from here, on Thursday afternoon. Investigators are yet to ascertain the cause and nature of the blast.
According to information reaching here, the blast took place outside Jayaraj Enterprises, located in the ALEAP Industrial Estate, when some workers were loading chemical drums into an auto. The impact of the blast caused two persons in the vicinity to be flung into the air. One of them fell on the damaged asbestos roof while the other was thrown nearly 50 metres away from the spot. Both of them, identified as a father-son duo from Vijayawada, died instantly.
Sources said the duo — A Koteswara Rao and Chinna Rao — had gone to the industrial estate to purchase scrap.
Police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel rushed to the spot and investigations are on.
