Actor-turned politician Khushbu Sundar on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the Congress. Sources have told media that Khushbu Sundar is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. She was with the Congress since 2014.
In a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Khushbu Sundar conveyed her decision to quit the party, saying that she was being “pushed and suppressed” by “few elements” seated at a higher level within the party.
“A few elements seated at a higher level within the party, people who have no connectivity with the ground reality or public recognition are dictating terms and people like me who wanted to work for the party sincerely, are being pushed and suppressed,” Khushbu Sundar said.
Meanwhile, Congress has dropped Khushbu Sundar as its spokesperson.
Khushbu Sundar had first triggered the rumours of a rift with the Congress in July when she backed the centre government’s National Education Policy (NEP).
In a cryptic tweet on Sunday, Khushbu Sundar had said: “Many see a change in me. Well as you age, you evolve n grow, learn n unlearn, perceptions change you understand the difference between right n wrong. Change is inevitable .
Reacting to Khushbu Sundar’s resignation from the Congress, party leader Karti Chidambaram said, “A 180-degree turn is a tough manoeuvre to make! Good luck.”
Khushbu Sundar had left for Delhi on Sunday. According to the sources, Khushbu Sundar will likely to join the BJP on Monday itself. It could turn out to be big catch for the ruling party in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections.
