The much-awaited Kanaka Durga and Benz Circle flyovers opened for traffic today. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari along with Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the Kanaka Durga and Benz Circle flyovers virtually. Later, they laid foundation stones for another 16 projects worth Rs 7,584 crore. The 2.6 km long flyover has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 502 crore along National Highway 65, which links Hyderabad and Vijayawada. The flyover was completed in 900 working days.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy participated in the inauguration through virtual conference from Tadepalli camp office. Earlier, the inauguration date was postponed as the Union minister was infected by Covid-19. The trial run was conducted for 10 days and inspections were conducted three times to test the quality of the bridge. With the inauguration of the bridge, traffic problems in the city, particularly in One Town, Krishna Lanka, Bhavanipuram areas and at Prakasam Barrage will be solved to a large extent. The Central government had sanctioned funds for the construction of the mega flyover which will connect Krishna Lanka with Kummaripalem.
BJP president Somu Veerraju said in a statement on Thursday that the traffic congestion in Vijayawada was going to end with the inauguration of the Kanaka Durga flyover. The 2.6 km long twisted Kanaka Durga flyover will be a special attraction in the country.
The union minister also laid foundation for 61 projects with an estimated cost of Rs 15,591.9 crore across the state and ten projects will be dedicated to the nation.
As part of the program, foundation of the projects will be undertaken in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 7,584.68 crore and inauguration of completed projects at a cost of Rs 8,007.22 crore. On the other hand, the construction of 878.4 km new national highways at a cost of Rs 7,584.68 crore will be launched. Meanwhile, the government will dedicate the 532.92 km road and ROBs constructed to the state.
